Although the podcast format is not new or recent at all, since 2018 it has been on the rise and with significant growth within content creators.
We can even see that today most have “broken” a bit with what was the original format of doing it only in audio and have added the possibility of having it also in video.
This has been mainly because content marketing statistics have let us know that users consume hours and hours of online videos and that, among their preferences, videomarketing tends to stand out.
In fact, according to CISCO research, 82% of Internet traffic by 2022 will come from videos. On the other hand, Statista conducted a survey where 54.9% prefer to watch short videos compared to other formats such as series and movies.
This already gives us a projection on how consumer behavior is developing and will allow brands to define where to invest to obtain a better ROI .
Having said that, we know that not only is the video podcast format popular, but that it will continue to grow and that if you want to make one, it’s a great time to start.
What do I need to start my podcast?
- Get your motivation and your value proposition
While wanting to do something can prompt you for a couple of days to work on it, to turn your podcast into something profitable or relevant, you will really need something to move you to work for it.
In addition, with the number of podcasts that currently exist, you need to be able to stand out from the sea of content that is online.
What is the value proposition of your podcast? What do you have to offer that others are not offering? What problems can you solve through your podcast?
These are some of the questions you should be able to answer before you start recording. Establish a concept, a name, an image that represents everything you want to convey and then get to work.
- Define your goals
The objectives are the guide and at the same time the engine of your project. When you know what you want to achieve, how long you want to achieve it, and how you are going to do it, you can set off on the adventure of starting your podcast.
Stay realistic without losing optimism, counting on your first episode to go viral in minutes, although it may happen, is not something you can assure or take for granted.
Be as specific as you can when thinking about your goals and work for each of them. As you grow, your goals will grow with you.
- Prepare what you need to record
Perhaps you think that all you need is your voice, your ideas and a cell phone or a camera with a microphone to record. But unless you have a recording studio or crew to take care of everything else for you, there is so much more to do.
To upload the podcast on different platforms you will need one that will serve as a “distributor”. For example, Anchor and iVoox are currently the most popular for this process: you upload the final file and they make sure your episode airs on the platforms of your choice
Also keep in mind that you will probably need some kind of editing, no matter how basic. You can use OBS to help you record and any editing program that suits your needs and budget.
- Be constant
Finally, being consistent is key not only for a podcast but for any project you have in mind. Motivation pushes you to do things and keeps you active for maybe a few days or weeks, but it is discipline and perseverance that will allow you to continue there and be successful.
After these little tips, you are ready to start your new challenge and start your new podcast.
